This modern 6,000-square-foot renovated home is located on a beautiful wooded lot. Viewed from the street, the massive split-face Indiana limestone walls evoke the look of a fortress, yet the extensive floating entrance canopy invites visitors into a welcoming interior. All of the exterior walls are veneered with large textured and maintenance-free natural limestone.

The centerpiece of this Bloomfield Township project is a unique pool nestled in a stepped lakeside terrace that’s oriented parallel to the main axis of the house. A glass rail subtly protects the pool without impacting the dramatic views of the lake beyond. A combination of pearl-finish Lunada Bay agate tile and Wet Edge pebble finish work together with complementary blue hues; the result is a cool, cohesive look that unifies the pool and integrated spa.

OUTDOOR FIREPLACE

The owner of this Birmingham remodel envisioned a covered patio that could host guests but also serve as a place for the family to relax and unwind. A 60-inch linear double-sided fireplace made it possible to create two separate spaces that function together seamlessly. The custom stone surround goes from floor to ceiling and establishes a beautiful focal point, while granite benches provide additional seating and function.

RESIDENTIAL LANDSCAPE DESIGN (OVER ONE ACRE)

1st Place

Zaremba & Company

The dramatic topography and natural character of a wooded site inspired the design of this West Bloomfield Township project. Parallel lines of Corten steel slice through the topography and are interwoven with an angular retaining wall that reiterates the lines and forms of the residence. A back deck of sustainably harvested Ipe wood offers an intimate space for dining and entertaining. Throughout the landscape, a native-oriented plant palette further stitches the hardscape to the earthy surroundings.

RESIDENTIAL LANDSCAPE DESIGN (UNDER ONE ACRE)

1st Place

The goal of this landscaping update was to preserve the location’s natural features and knit the architecture to the site. To minimize grade disruption, a retaining wall holds back the front yard. Dogwood, ornamental grasses, and birch trees were positioned to maintain the character of the site. The home, shrouded in vegetation, gradually opens as one travels up the drive. A new porch and staircase create an inviting entry.
