Today’s Ceramic Tile:
Today’s ceramic tile, porcelain, and stone marketplace is seeing a greater demand for larger-format tiles in square, rectangular, and elongated plank sizes. Industry standard 6×6 and 12×12 sizes are being replaced by much larger 24×24, 18×36, and 6×36 planks. Additionally, those rustic, tumbled, and distressed edge tiles are being passed up for more clean-lined refined installations with minimal grout joints, for worry-free maintenance.
Advancements in Technology:
With advancements in technology and the capability of printing high-definition graphics onto the surface of a porcelain tile, manufacturers have been able to flawlessly reproduce the look and feel of travertine, slate, and concrete. Faux wood porcelain planks are a newer option; whether they feature a stylized pattern or realistic wood grain, they are in demand.
More Demand for Bold Accents:
There is also more demand for bold accents rather than an entire backsplash of one field tile, and designs are more layered and detailed. With greater options available, consumers can push the envelope of style by mixing mediums such as wood, metal, glass, stone, and ceramic. Mosaics are more intricate, with lots of patterns to choose from: basketweave, penny rounds, pebbles, hexagons, and lattice patterns. Glass mosaics are constantly being reinvented; there’s always a new design on the horizon.
