Portrait by Justin Maconochie

MICHIGAN DESIGN CENTER’S annual Design 2 Ways event gave participating pairs of designers three similar items. Then they were challenged to create a space (one is shown here, with said items). “I was given an armless chair, a chrome lamp, and  glass vases,” recalls Linda Shears, ASID, of Linda Shears Designs in Troy, shown at right. “My ‘greige’ sofa makes the red pop,” she says of her vignette in the Design Center’s Decoroom.  “We punched the space with black,” she adds. “If you fear red, use it on an accent wall (she used Sherwin-Williams’ Positive Red in this space) or in accessories, like the pillows and artwork. Red always warms a space up and sparks conversation.”
