TableTalk with the Designers
MIX IT UP: Armina Kasprowicz, of AK Design & Accents, Rochester Hills, wandered “down a garden path” beyond which was a table set with 100-year-old-plus silverware, mixed with cutlery from Pottery Barn.
THINK TEXTURE: Kasprowicz tied her silverware with velvet ribbons (linen napkins from Restoration Hardware).
SHOP AROUND: Kasprowicz selected anemones and greenery from Fleurdetroit and a pot and topiary form from Detroit Garden Works.
CREATE AN EXPERIENCE: Jill-Maria Ferrier, of Xander & Ferrier Interior Design & Decoration, Bloomfield Hills, says, “I wanted it to be very much a living experience with texture and form, to be sensual and interesting.”
ADD CONTRAST: Ferrier added “serious elegance” in the way of stunning dishes and glassware.
SPEND WISELY: “I used the cheapest clear glass plates I could find, but mixed them with Waterford glasses,” says event co-chair Michael Coyne, of Michael Coyne Design, Troy.

Tablescapes at the ‘Variety’ luncheon — the very essence of summer
A select group of the area’s finest designers showed their table-scape creativity to support Variety, The Children’s Charity during Variety’s Table Tops luncheon in late April. The annual event, held at Pine Lake Country Club in West Bloomfield Township, showcased more than 30 exquisitely decorated table tops by a variety of designers including Michael Coyne (event co-chair), Caroline Groenveld (event co-chair), Jeffrey King, Jill-Maria Ferrier, Nicole Withers, Rima Belau, and others. A recurring theme was gardens and Mother Nature. “This event is an opportunity to have fun and get creative,” says Belau, of Rima Designs in Plymouth. “It’s for a great cause, and working with so much talent is inspiring. The best part — it isn’t a competition; everyone helps each other, from carrying boxes, to tweaking a fork or knife.” Guests enjoyed lunch and presentations in textile design, floor-covering trends, and more. Proceeds go to Variety, The Children’s Charity. Information: 248-258-5511, variety-detroit.com.
