OLD MEETS NEW The Isaak wing chair from Hickory Chair’s James River Collection gets the regal treatment with one of designer Lisa Petrella’s favorite fabrics — Anna Damask from the Alessandra Branca Collection.

FOR THIS VIGNETTE in an Oakland County home, Troy-based interior designer Lisa Petrella chose a Schumacher fabric for a Hickory Chair (Isaak) that takes center stage. Called Anna Damask, and from the Alessandra Branca collection, the fabric is one of the designer’s favorites. “It’s a classic pattern with updated colors,” says Petrella, who runs Petrella Designs. The blend of Prussian blues and rich purples with vibrant reds adds punch to the sitting area and plays well with other patterns nearby, including the drapery, rug, and ceramic vases. “You can have different patterns as long as you have large, medium, and small scales,” Petrella says. The chair’s fabric was adopted from an antique silk document. Its linen damask has a washed finish that captures relaxed elegance. “Branca takes an old-school look and brings in bright, vibrant, new-age colors — a new classic,” Petrella notes. The cream trim and moulding and the neutral Schumacher grasscloth wallcovering keep the look from being too busy. petrelladesigns.comBy Megan Swoyer
