SISTER ACT To create a shared space that would speak to two different personalities with a five-year age difference, designer Dania Farhat focused on a light blue the sisters could agree on. The wallcolor is Sherwin-Williams’ Hinting Blue. She enhanced the space with York’s Candice Olson Modern Artisan Arabesque wallpaper. Chandelier: Ro Sham Beaux.
THE TWO “CLIENTS” who spend time in this space “didn’t agree on much,” says interior designer Dania Farhat, left, of Dearborn-based Farhat Interiors. The girls (tween and teenage sisters) did, however, agree on the color for the walls. “Choosing the perfect shade of light blue was very important,” Farhat says. “I wanted something that wasn’t too overwhelming. The overall sense of this particular blue is calming, cheerful, and peaceful, like an ocean on a warm and sunny day.” The blue creates a sense of serenity, she says, and adds a refreshing feeling to the space. As for what to pair it with, Farhat recommends neutrals. Beyond paint, the designer selected a wallpaper with a similar shade of blue, along with other neutral colors. “I used the wallpaper and the wall color as an inspiration for the overall design, to create a cohesive and soft look.” — By Megan Swoyer
