When Birmingham and New York-Based interior designer Corey Damen Jenkins of Corey Damen Jenkins & Associates, LLC was invited to participate in the prestigious Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse in New York this year, he was ecstatic. “I would’ve been grateful just to do the broom closet, but they assigned the formal library to me — a truly unexpected honor,” says Jenkins, who renamed the space The Ladies Library. “In the early 1920s, this space would’ve been deemed The Gentlemen’s Study; however, I felt it was time to flip the script on the ‘man cave’ and give my fictitious female client a command center of her own.”
With pink walls, a garden-inspired ceiling wallpaper (Cole & Son, see below), and snow leopard prints, the color selections are truly gorgeous. Cheery jolts of green and persimmon make the library an inviting spot in which to read Christmas cards during the holiday season.
“My goal was to create the intersection where traditional design and modernity meet,” Jenkins says, adding that the Parisian fashion runway (Valentino’s latest collection) inspired the colors of green, persimmon, taupe, black, and white, with touches of gold.
