Plaid carpeting (Stark Brigade rug, Desert Night) trimmed in faux leather defines the space. The chairs/ottoman were reupholstered in a Perennials fabric, Swanky Color Platinum, while the neutral throw, with its cable knit, adds an additional layer of texture. Pillows are from Clarence House, in Batou gray linen. The drapery fabric (not shown) is Cowtan & Tout, Filigree Color Flannel, with appliqué. Builder: Moceri Custom Homes; architect: Dominick Tringali.

READING BETWEEN THE LINES  This reading/study area, located at the top of the second-floor staircase in a Rochester home, provides a quiet place where the homeowners can retreat to at the end of the day, explains interior designer Marianne Jones, left, owner of Birmingham-based Marianne Jones LLC. “Warm and cool grays (Benjamin Moore’s Wind’s Breath wall paint) carry throughout the home and easily transition to blues and silvers in some areas,” Jones adds.
