Interior designer Linda Shears, left, owner of Troy-based Linda Shears Designs LLC, was given a small budget to do big things for this Troy home. “The homeowner (Jennifer So, who runs the local macaronikid.com blog) is a single mom of two and wanted me to be a project manager/design consultant; she needed to make her home more family-friendly,” Shears explains. “I would make color and spatial suggestions, and often Jennifer would then procure the pieces herself.” So is “savvy when it comes to shopping, and that helped keep the prices down.” For the master suite, shown here, Shears chose lavenders and grays, to create a peaceful retreat. “The shade of lavender in the master bath (Sherwin-Williams’ Veiled Violet, shown on opposite page) has a gray base to it; it flows effortlessly from the bedroom. We honored the Veiled Violet in the bedroom by repeating it and slightly up-coloring it in accessories and art. Violet has a calming effect on the mind. It’s a day-dreamy color that enhances the gray tones in the bedroom, and makes for a restful getaway for the busy mom,” Shears says. lindashears.com
