DeSandre Tile, a third-generation business since 1927, working with David A. McGee, senior designer at Pewabic Pottery Design Studio, Detroit, and interior designer Shirley J. Maddalena, created a curved hearth to fit the lines of a custom home in Orchard Lake. Denis DeSandre says the hearth replaced an existing travertine slab. The tiles include Pewabic’s Iridescent/BG5 and brown glaze A42, and 2×2 decorative-inset tiles, also in Iridescent/ BG5. The existing fireplace surround of molded material coated with bonded bronze to simulate bark was fabricated by Forms & Surfaces. The wood floor is by Reimer Floors. TSA of Birmingham built the home.
