IN THE DETAILS The colors selected for the HGTV Urban Oasis living room are mixed with “building materials that have an imperfect, handmade feel, in a nod to the Craftsman style, but also with Mid-Century elements to skew younger and appeal to millennials. We’re in a college town, after all,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.
THE ART OF THE MIX The living room in the HGTV Urban Oasis home in Ann Arbor is awash in Valspar Paint’s Sparkling Sage in eggshell. “This sage is more gray than green,” says interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn, shown at left, “and isn’t a textbook color.” The house is a classic Craftsman style, but Flynn didn’t want the interior to be a cliché. The well-known interior designer says the color complements the exterior of the home, which is a “hunter and dark green with deep black and brown — true Craftsman colors. (On the inside), we pumped up or turned down the classic colors to make them feel fresh, for a more ‘modern Craftsman’ style.” See more on this home in this issue’s Bulletin Board.
